Spotlight: Mavis Adukpoh

PROFILE OF MAVIS ADUKPOH

Mavis completed West Africa Senior High school (WASS) in 2018 after she sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). She feared not being able to pursue her career in nursing after senior high because her parents are constrained financially, especially when they struggled with giving her school allowance. But fortunately, whiles at WASS, Mavis applied for the HerStory college scholarship which she became a beneficiary of. She believed a college scholarship would help ease the burden on her family when it comes to sponsoring her education.

Mavis finds joy in helping others in whichever way she can, so it has always been her dream to become a nurse. She says in her own words: “I personally love to be a nurse. Anytime I visit the hospital and I see how the nurses are working hard, I become happy and want to become one of them.” She had wait for year after senior high before applying to a nursing school; she finally was admitted to the Pantang Nursing and Midwifery Training College in 2019 to pursue a two year diploma Nurse Assistant (clinical) programme.

She successfully completed the programme on 15th December 2021 after taking the required licensure exams for nurses. Whiles she waits to be posted by the government to a health institution, she is currently a Homecare nurse with Nurse 24/7 (a private healthcare agency).
